Quarterback (2)

IN: Jared Goff, Kyle Allen
OUT: Hendon Hooker

I’ve had Allen and Hooker going back and forth all summer long, but this game sealed it. Kyle Allen is not only taking the QB2 job, but he’s taking what will probably be the only other quarterback spot on the roster. It’s very hard to see the Lions taking three QBs into the season. Especially with Hooker’s struggles.

Running back (4)

IN: Jahymr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Sione Vaki, Craig Reynolds
OUT: Jabari Small, Jacob Saylors

No shockers here. I think Saylors showed that he has a shot to make the practice squad, but a 53-man roster spot for him would be pretty hard to obtain, even if someone gets hurt.

Wide Receiver (6)

IN: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa, Tim Patrick, Kalif Raymond, Dominic Lovett
OUT: Jackson Meeks, Ronnie Bell, Tom Kennedy, Jakobie Keeny-James, Malik Taylor

Jackson Meeks balled out in this game, and he took advantage of Dominic Lovett being out. He caught a big 68-yard bomb, and he got his first touchdown, too. Still, I have to keep Lovett in this spot for now because he has the special-teams ability that Meeks doesn’t have, and that’s really important in that sixth receiver spot.

Tight End (3)

IN: Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Zach Horton
Out: Shane Zylstra, Kenny Yeboah, Steven Stilianos

Zach Horton continues to impress, while Kenny Yeboah continues to have some rough outings. I think that, and the fact that Horton can play full back too, is going to give the undrafted rookie tight end the gig and that third tight end, and we’ll see him play here and there during the regular season.

Offensive Line (8)

IN: Taylor Decker, Graham Glasgow, Christian, Mahogany, Tate Ratledge Penei Sewell, Giovanni Manu, Dan Skipper, Kayode Awosika
OUT: Kinglsley Eguakun, Colby Sorsdal, Jamarco Jones, Netane Muti, Michael Niese, Mason Miller, Tyrstan Colon, Justin Herron

PUP list: Miles Fraizer

I had high hopes for Kinglsey Eguakun ahead of the season, but Kayode Awosika is likely to earn that final offensive lineman spot over him. Where things get really interesting is the tackle position. With Justin Herron getting hurt, and Giovanni Manu not being quite ready to play, and then Dan Skipper being hurt. You have to wonder if the Lions add another tackle this coming week.

Defensive Line (11)

IN: Aidan Hutchinson, DJ Reader, Josh Pascal, Mekhi Wingo, Al-Quadin Muhammad, Roy Lopez, Tyleik Williams, Ahmed Hassanien, Marcus Davenport, Nate Lynn, Myles Adams
OUT:  Brodric Martin, Keith Cooper Jr., Pat O’Connor, Chris Smith, Isaac Ukwu, Mitchell Agude,

PUP list: Alim McNeill, Levi Onwuzurike

I like Keith Cooper Jr, and I think he has a real shot to make this roster. I wouldn’t be shocked if he did, too, but Nate Lynn is outplaying him. He’s rushing the passer like a real pro. Then there’s Myles Adams, who is also having a nice summer and can provide interior depth. Don’t rule out Cooper, though. We’ll see how the rest of the summer goes.

Linebacker (6)

IN: Alex Anzalone, Derrick Barnes, Jack Campbell, Grant Stuard, Anthony Pittman, Zach Cunningham,
OUT: Trevor Nowaske,  DaRon Gilbert, Ezekiel Turner

PUP list: Malcolm Rodriguez

With Malcolm Rodriguez out till maybe November, Zach Cunningham gets the spot, and he’s not getting it because Rodriguez is hurt. He’s getting it because he’s showing up on film. He’s making stops and showing why he once led the league in tackles.

Cornerback (6)

IN: D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Amik Robertson, Rock Ya-Sin, Khalil Dorsey, Nick Whiteside
OUT: DiCaprio Bootle, Tyson Russell, D.J. Miller

Injured Reserve: Ennis Rakestraw

Rakestraw being out for the season really changes some stuff. I’ve got Nick Whiteside on the roster right now, and he’s playing well, but I would be a bit surprised if Detroit doesn’t grab another corner at some point this summer.

Safety (4)

IN: Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch, Avonte Maddox, Morice Norris
OUT: Erik Hallet, Loren Strickland, Ian Kennelly

Injured reserve: Dan Jackson

I have Norris in here, and I’ve had him in here since before the game. He was really making some waves. Now I’m keeping him there almost as a manifesting type thing. He’s going to be ok, and he’s going to make this roster.

Special Teams (3)

IN: Jake Bates, Jack Fox, Hogan Hatten
Out:

Nothing is changing here at all.
