Week 9 is over and done with. Now it's time for us to look back at the first half of the Detroit Lions season. That's just what we're going to do. All this week we're going to be doing a series of mid-season articles. We'll be talking about both the good and the bad of this year so far. Here's what we've done so far:

Lions mid-season rookie report cards

Today we're going to be giving out MVP awards to three guys. One on offense, one on defense and one on special teams. Let's get into it.

Offensive MVP: Jared Goff

Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports

Jared Goff has continued to be the guy that we thought he could be. Actually, he’s been better than that to be honest. After nine weeks of the NFL season, Goff is currently the fourth highest graded quarterback in the league on Pro Football Focus. That’s just a couple weeks after he was the number one guy for a couple weeks.

This offense has been very good this season and a lot of that has to do with Goff being cool under pressure and having his confidence back at such a high rate. He's shown that he needs to be a guy that's going to be around for a long time.

Runner-Up: Amon-Ra St. Brown

Defensive MVP: Alex Anzalone

Who saw this coming? Seriously? Anzalone went from a guy that’s decent and good to have around to a guy that is not just playing his best ball, but is playing at a near elite level in the NFL. He is flying all over the place and generally whenever you see the ball, you also see Anzalone right there waiting to make a stop.

He's also become a better pass rusher too. He has a career high three sacks this season and there's still another half of the year to be played. It's a good thing the Lions signed him to a new deal this year.

Runner-Up: Alim McNeil

Special Teams: Khalil Dorsey

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Others might make another choice, but I’m going with Dorsey. He’s been a good return man, but he’s also made some really good plays as a gunner too. One of them was on Monday when he got there in time to help the Lions down a kick return in the shadow if the Raiders goal post. He was the first man there after the kick returner bobbled the ball. He also made a really good tackle on a kick return against the Chiefs. One that set them back at a hard starting spot.

Dorsey looked to have maybe hurt himself on that play Monday night. We haven't heard anything on that. Hopefully he'll be ready to go against the Chargers in Week 10.

Runner-Up: Jack Fox
