Don't be surprised if the Lions do nothing during the NFL trade deadline, also don't think that means they don't care

The NFL trade deadline is rapidly approaching and the Detroit Lions are expected to be one of the teams that makes something happen during this time. Here's the thing, as time rolls on it becomes increasingly clear that there's a really good chance they won't.
The thing right now is that there's just not a lot out there. The Raiders publicly said they won't trade Maxx Crosby, the Browns publicly said they won't trade Myles Garrett and the Titans publicly said they won't trade Jeffrey Simmons. Then there's a bunch of guys whose team's haven't publicly said anything, but don't plan to trade any edges. After that you're left with guys you might not want to even waste assets trading for.
There's a couple guys to have some interest in, but who knows if they're even available anymore. Za'Darius Smith might have been available a couple weeks ago, but the Browns just got a huge divisional win and he had a big game. He may have taken himself off the market. That happens from time to time.
With all that in mind, the Lions might just be out of opportunities to make a deal. This isn't Madden where you can just go to any team you want and offer a lot of draft picks and a player you don't want 20 times until the computer agrees to the trade. If teams don't want to make a deal with you, that's that and there's nothing you can do about it.
It doesn't mean that the Lions don't care or recognize they have a problem, it means they were unable to solve it, but did as much as they could do. Calling around and asking questions and making offers is pretty much all you can do.
You can make the argument that the Lions just could have called up teams and started throwing around first-round picks, but that's not something that happens as much as you think it does. The last time a team just threw a first-round pick at the deadline was in 2018 when the Cowboys traded for Amari Cooper. Teams just don't do that.
The Lions don't need to be desperate right now. They're a very well coached team and they're finding ways to scheme up pressure and make some things happen. As a whole, they're much better defensively than they've been in a long time. They can still win a Super Bowl this year.
Even if they don't, you have to understand that we're talking about a window that just opened last year. The Lions aren't on their last legs with a bunch of veterans on expiring contracts here. This isn't the last chance just like last year wasn't the last chance. This a very young team that is managed incredibly well for the most part. They'll be right back if they don't do it this year. They don't need to sell their soul this year just like they didn't last year.
With all that said, the Lions may find a way to make a deal in the next week or so and everyone will either be happy with it or be upset because they perceive that not enough was done, but it certainly doesn't mean the Lions didn't do all they could.
The one big thing that’s propelling the Lions on this run right now that was missing in the beginning of the season
The Detroit Lions are on a run right now. They've won five in a row and they've scored 30 plus points in four of those games. They've score 40 plus points in three of them. We know this offense is playing out of it's mind right now and Jared Goff is putting up MVP numbers, […]
