The Detroit Lions lost a heartbreaker in Dallas on Saturday night after a horrible call from officials. The Lions pulled off a beautiful two point conversion that featured throw to left tackle Taylor Decker. It felt like a perfect moment to cap off this game and to honor Decker for a second straight week.
Then, what felt like five minutes later, flags flew and the Lions were called for illegal touching. Officials said Taylor Decker did not report as eligible. Well, it certainly looks like he did right here.
Here is Taylor Decker very clearly walking up to the official to report as eligible. Did the official think that Dan Skipper was reporting? Is that what happened? Seems like that would be on the official for not paying attention. We'll have to see what the officials say in the pool report late Saturday night. You hate to see this kind of thing happen. Especially when it negates a moment like that and negates what could have been a big win for the Lions.
The Lions need to shake this one off and move on to Week 18. There's still a shot that the Lions can get to the second seed. It's much harder now, but it's possible. Even if they don't, the playoffs are right around the corner.
Taylor Decker said that he reported as eligible, Dan Skipper confirmed it, Penei Sewell confirmed it and Jared Goff confirmed it. Somehow the official got it in his head that Dan Skipper reported when Skipper says he did not say a word.
