The Detroit Lions’ offense has been a revelation in the last two weeks. It scored 52 points against the Bears and 38 points against the Ravens. This should seriously alleviate any concerns that Lions fans or media have had about how this team will perform without Ben Johnson.

John Morton is a good offensive coordinator so far, and there hasn’t been a lot to complain about since Week 1. So why is Dan Orlovsky making Lions fans feel this way?

This stems from Dan Campbell walking around the sideline with the playbook in his hand and the fact that Morton is out of sight and up in the booth. There’s really nothing new here.

Campbell has always carried the playbook around with him, and there shouldn’t be any surprise if he’s calling a play here and there. I know people think that Campbell was being led around by Johnson, but that’s just never been accurate. Campbell is an offensive guy, and people don’t realize how big a part of this offense he has been since getting here.

With that said, there’s no question that Morton is the one calling the offense, and the players will tell you that. Last week, when the Lions put up 52 points, it was the players in the locker room who were talking about the game that Morton called.

Look, to be clear, we’re not crowning Morton just yet. He’s called two good games in a row. Let’s see how he keeps stacking them, and then we’ll go from there.

But so far, the wrap out of Detroit has been good; not much attention should be paid to any theories about Campbell taking the playbook from Morton. This is not another Anthony Lynn situation in Detroit.
