Former Lions safety says what all football fans and media need to hear and understand after Rondale Moore’s passing
We all need to hear this
There was some very tragic news on Sunday when it was reported that Minnesota Vikings receiver Rondale Moore had died on Saturday night of an apparent suicide.
It’s a stark reminder that no matter who you are, what you do for a living, or how much money you make, we’re all susceptible to mental health issues. It affects every single one of us in our own way. For Moore, we don’t know what exactly he was coping with, but the speculation is that suffering back-to-back torn ACL’s played a major role.
It should shock nobody that these types of things will affect your well-being. Just last summer, Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson talked about the dark place he went into after breaking his leg during the 2024 season. We’ve seen Kerby Joseph essentially disappear from social media after some irresponsible reporting from internet doctors who never treated Joseph and don’t know what his injury is, leading to people going to his comment section to talk about how his career is over and how the Lions can get out of his contract.
That’s former Lions safety Jamal Adams speaking some real truth that I think fans and media really need to hear. These guys are going through the worst times in their careers, and for some, the worst moments of their lives, and maybe we tend to look at them as just names on a roster sheet, and that their only reason for existence is to help the football team.
I don’t know about you, but I’m coming away from this with a different outlook. I’m no longer going to talk about players being injury-prone in such a pejorative fashion. Maybe others can join in this. It’s time start looking at players as human beings. Even if you’re frustrated by their injuries. We’re not helping by bombarding them with that frustration. Just hope for the best and encourage.
