Giants tackle makes some of the most delusional comments about Lions edge Aidan Hutchinson, and the film totally proves him wrong
Lots of people are getting on and off this island
The Detroit Lions got an ugly win over the New York Giants on Sunday, and the whole game ended when Aidan Hutchinson beat Giants tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and sacked Jameis Winston on fourth down in overtime.
This must have really got to Eluemunor because after the game, he decided to talk some smack about Hutchinson to the New York media. Here’s what he had to say:
“How do I say this respectfully: He did not do a damn thing all (expletive) game. He strikes me as the type of guy that would try to celebrate that one play, but for most of the day, I was on an island with him, and he didn’t do anything. Obviously, I’m pissed about the last play, but at the same time, there’s not much you can do. They know what you’re going to do, and he still tries to give me his best move, and I run him by the quarterback, and he just manages to run back upfield and get the sack.”
OK, let’s set the table for this little film review. First off, Hutchinson spent the large majority of his day going against Andrew Thomas on the other side of the field. These guys barely faced each other.
Second, he did run Hutchinson past Winston on that play before he took his win and just let him go. If you don’t finish the play, you can’t claim that you did. Now, let’s take a look at some of the videos of Eluemunor “having Hutchinson on an island.”
Jermaine, what the hell are you talking about?
Here’s Eluemunor going one-on-one with Huchinson and allowing not only a pressure where an incomplete pass is thrown, but a quarterback hit on Winston. So, it turns out he did do some stuff when on this island.
Another pressure
Here, Hutchinson pushes Eluemunor back, and you can actually see Winston see Hutchinson coming, and then he moves off his spot and goes back and throws an incomplete pass. He’s hurried by Hutchinson, even if Hutchinson doesn’t blow past Eluemunor.
You can see how Eluemunor might ignore that on the field and think it’s a win. He’ll see that it’s not in the film when he watches it.
Double team
Pretty self-explanatory. Not much of an island here, and if it is, there are multiple people on it blocking Hutchinson.
Illegal hands to the face/maybe facemask
Hard to be definitive here, but Eluemunor has his hands on Hutchinson’s face, and the official just doesn’t seem to notice. I don’t think it’s a facemask at this angle, but it’s definitely illegal hands to the face. If it was noticed, it was getting called.
It wasn’t all bad for Eluemunor
We’re not going to just dump on the guy. Here is Hutchinson trying his spin move and getting blanked by Eluemunor. In this instance, he did have him on an island and shut him down. But he’s crazy if he thinks this happened all day.
