It’s time for the Lions to do a complete in-season overhaul of the offensive line, here’s who Detroit should start against the Giants
Enough is enough and it’s time for a change
The Detroit Lions’ offensive line has just been beaten like it stole something in the last few weeks, and it’s pretty simple to figure out what the plan is for opposing defenses.
Attack the interior of the Lions’ offensive line. You saw that against the Vikings, and you saw it on Sunday night against the Eagles. Jared Goff has zero time to do anything. I know you all want a mobile guy, but nobody is getting away from this.
I know that everyone wants to wake up on Monday morning and blame Brad Holmes because he couldn’t magically pry any offensive linemen away from teams, but this is just the way the cookie crumbles in the NFL. There have been eight offensive linemen traded at the trade deadline since 2002. It just does not happen, and you’re seeing the reason for it right in front of your eyes. It is not easy to reload on the offensive line because good offensive linemen are hard to find.
The Lions won’t find a new offensive line just hanging out somewhere this season, but it’s beyond the point where sitting on your hands is the way to go. It’s time to try something new.

It might not seem like a drastic overhaul, but it is. Graham Glasgow did his best at this juncture of his career, and he has a lot of good things to hang his hat on in that career, but he’s not having a good season. Even though he’s only credited for one sack allowed this year, the pressure Goff is under is all coming from the interior, and the talk about communication errors can only fall on the guy who’s the key communicator on the line.
Bring in Kingsley Eguakun, who has been a center his entire career and has repped with the first team in his last two training camps, so he has a rapport with the group. At this point, it’s worth trying, and it’s hard to understand why the Lions haven’t tried it yet.
As for Fraizer, you could make a good argument about rushing him out there after not playing all season and missing training camp, but the Lions did this last year with Christian Mahogany, and it worked out pretty well. Now, Mahogany is the starter when he’s not injured. Frazier started in the SEC for LSU, and he can play any spot on the offensive line. This kid is ready for the opportunity. He should be a big part of the line going forward.
If the Lions make no changes, I’ll get it. Continuity is important, and I usually applaud it. Still, at this point, the Lions need to try something different because the interior of the line is being eaten alive, and Goff is being eaten along with it.
