Jahmyr Gibbs showed on Sunday that he's ready for big things

The Detroit Lions got beaten pretty badly on Sunday. It might have even been one of the worst beatings this team has ever taken. I spent all day Sunday being negative about this team for good reason, but I have to at least have one positive take from this game. That take is that Jahmyr Gibbs looked like a legitimate weapon on Sunday and he's ready for more.

The Gibbs conversation has been kind of an annoying one if we're being honest. Fantasy people were mad because the Lions were bringing him along slowly and some Lions fans were mad for the same reason.

On Sunday the Lions were put in a situation, for the second time this season, where they were forced to throw Gibbs into the deep end becasue David Montgomery was out. He swam both times, but on Sunday he looked closer to Michael Phelps than me. I'm a bad swimmer.

Gibbs ran for 68 yards and caught nine passes for 58 yards. He even scored his first career touchdown on a really nice 21-yard run.

Where do things go from here? The reality is that he will probably continue to be the Lions starter for a little bit here. At least against the Raiders next Monday for sure. It's time for Ben Johnson to open up Gibbs' section of the playbook and start really utilizing Gibbs in the ways that the team made it seem like they would during training camp.

The Ravens are one of the better defenses in the league and he was able to play pretty well against them. This week the Lions play a Raiders defense that's allowed the fourth most rushing yards this season. It's time to see if he can take over a game.

Even when Montgomery comes back, presumably during the bye week since they didn't add him to the injured reserve, Gibbs still needs to be a bigger part of this offense going forward. Especially in the pass game where Gibbs has a better chance to get into space and do some real damage.

We'll see where things go from here, but it was hard to come away from a loss like that with any positivity and this guy had me doing it anyways. That says a lot.

5 Cornerbacks the Lions could trade for this week

Sunday was a rough day for the Detroit Lions. More than anything, it was a tough day for their secondary that allowed Lamar Jackson to pick them apart with 357 yards and three touchdowns. They were averaging 12.8 yards per play in the pass game. Even their full back ripped off a 28 yard catch.  […]
