The Detroit Lions have their quarterback in Jared Goff. There's been no secret that he's their guy and they love him. The fans do too. His name was being chanted by fans all throughout the playoffs and not just at Ford Field. It was happening at Pistons, Red Wings, Griffins, K-Wings, Spartans and Wolverines games too. He is home. After today, he can call this place home for a while.

The Lions and Goff agreed to a massive four year extension. The extension will keep Goff in Detroit until 2028 and will play him $212 million. $170 million of the deal will be guaranteed. Goff will get $53 million a year. That's second highest in the league.

Goff had a big 2022 and an even bigger 2023. He was in the top 10 in every major passing category that you'd want your quarterback to be in the top 10 of. He also led the Lions to their first playoff win since 1991 and their first trip back to the NFC Championship game since the same year.

This sets the Lions up at the most important position for the foreseeable feature. They can continue their build around him and continue their quest to win a Super Bowl with him. As for Hendon Hooker, who the Lions took with a third round pick last year, this should cement him as the Lions premium backup for a while.
