Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff confirmed on Thursday that he has a no trade clause in his brand-new contract that he also signed on Thursday. This pretty much guarantees that Jared Goff will be the Lions quarterback for the entirety of his remaining contract unless he waives that.

For Goff, getting that no trade clause was very important to him. He said security is important to him and you can understand why after what the Rams did to him.

"I think you can go back and forth on the numbers and whatnot. And that wasn't really the thing that was ever something I was extremely concerned with. It was the security and you know, the no trade clause and all that stuff, knowing that all that was in there and feeling secure."

This is pretty notable for the sense that the Lions felt comfortable giving that no trade clause to Goff and for Goff knowing that the team is fully behind him and willing to grant that clause to him. It's huge for the trust on both side of the negotiation.

Now, there might be some concern that if things don't go well that Goff can hold the team hostage, that's not really the case. There is an out for the Lions before the 2028 season because there's a team option included. In reality, the Lions could move on anytime they want before then if they're willing to eat the contract. Plus, they could always send Goff somewhere he's willing to go.

None of that should be a concern though. Both parties want to be together and there's been no signs that Goff is ever going to return back to the player he was before he got here. He really wants to be in Detroit and it's looking like he will likely retire as a Lion.
