The Detroit Lions season is over, but the fun of the offseason is already starting. The big news on Tuesday is that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be returning to the Lions, but that's not all that happened on Tuesday. The Lions also signed 11 players to futures deals. 

For reference, a futures deal is a reserve type contract that allows teams to hold onto their practice squad players or sign guys that they may have an interest in trying at camp. These deals do not count against the team salary cap. Here's who they signed. 

  • Linebacker Mitchel Agude
  • Receiver Maurice Alexander
  • Offensive lineman Matt Fairnok
  • Running back Jake Funk
  • Cornerback Craig James
  • Receiver Tom Kennedy
  • Safety Brandon Joseph
  • Offensive lineman Michael Niese
  • Defensive lineman Chris Smith
  • Offensive lineman Conor Galvin
  • Running back Jermar Jefferson

The Lions essentially signed most of their practice squad. There were some players like Michael Schofield and Zach Ertz that were not brought back on futures deals. That does not meant they're done with those players.
