The Miami Dolphins are putting together their new coaching staff after hiring former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to be their new head coach. One of the roles they’re looking to fill is the quarterbacks coach position. They attempted to hire a current Detroit Lions coach for that, but…

The Lions block the Dolphins from interviewing Bruce Gradkowski

Gradkowski joined the Lions coaching staff ahead of this past season as an offensive assistant. The Lions also hired Marques Tuiasosopo as well, and the understanding is that those two, along with defensive quality control coach Dre Thompson, are looked at as up-and-coming coaches who could net larger roles in the coming years.

Before coming to Detroit, Gradkowski was the offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL and an offenisve analyst for Toledo. He also played in the NFL for the Steelers, Rams, Browns, Raiders, and Bengals.

The Lions are expected to announce their coaching staff very soon, and maybe there’s a possibility that Gradkowski’s role has changed. For example, with Seth Ryan heading to the New York Jets, he could be taking on that assistant wide receivers coach role. Gradkowski spent a lot more time working with receivers last year than he did with quarterbacks. That role seems more like one Tuiasosopo would take on.
