The Detroit Lions have been sniffing around tight ends all offseason long. They met with multiple guys formally at the NFL Combine and then signed Kenny Yeboah and brought back Shane Zylstra in free agency.

On Wednesday, the Lions brought in Georgia tight end Ben Yurosek for a top-30 visit.

Yurosek is an interesting tight end because he's been both a receiving tight end and a blocking tight end in college. At Stanford, under new Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw, he was more of a pass-catching guy. He had 43 receptions and 658 yards in his sophomore season.

Then, once he transferred to Georgia, they had him be more of a blocking tight end, and he took to it pretty well. Yurosek was a solid pass blocker and run blocker for the Bulldogs.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler has Yurosek as his 22nd-ranked tight end in The Beast scouting guide. Here's what he had to say about him.

"Yurosek didn’t back down when asked to get his nose dirty as an inline blocker and executed well on the move (leads, screens, etc.). He tracks the ball well mid-route, with the body control to adjust, although I wanted more out of him on red zone snaps (only two career red zone touchdowns). Overall, Yurosek doesn’t have the type of exceptional size or power that will stand out on an NFL field, but he is assignment sound and a good enough athlete. He can make an NFL roster with continued fine-tuning of his run-blocking technique."

Yurosek is not currently projected to be drafted in next week's draft. But he could be looked at as a priority undrafted free agent for the Lions. His ties to Shaw could certainly help with that. Right now, it definitely looks like the Lions plan to have an all-out battle for the TE2 spot at camp.
