We've reached the pro day section of the NFL offseason and the NFL Draft process. There has been a ton of pro days from some of the biggest schools in the country as of late. Texas had theirs this week and Georgia had theirs the other day. South Carolina had theirs too. The Lions have had some representation at most of these, but Lions' GM Brad Holmes has only attended one as far what's been reported and that's Alabama.

Holmes seems to really love players from Alabama. He's drafted one in the first round of the last two drafts. Both were drafted pretty high as well. Jameson Williams at 12 and Jahmyr Gibbs also at 12.

The Gibbs pick was one that Holmes seemingly knew months and months ahead of time that he was going to make. Holmes attended the Alabama vs Texas game in 2022. A game in which Gibbs had a big showing with 96 total yards and a touchdown in a 20-19 win. Texas phenom Bijan Robinson also went off in that game for 130 yards and a touchdown. Robinson was always the running back that everyone else had their eyes on. Gibbs was the guy the Lions were looking at.

Holmes took Gibbs and it worked out very well. He was nominated for offensive rookie of the year this season. Jameson Williams hasn't hit the highs that Gibbs has, but he's growing and is expected to have a big 2024.

Who was Holmes more than likely scoping out at the Alabama pro day this year? My guess is both cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry were at the top of that list. The Lions don't really have a shot to get Arnold unless they trade up, but McKinstry could very well be there in at 29. Edge rusher Dallas Turner probably caught Holmes' eye as well. He is another guy that would be a dream for the Lions, but he is likely to be long gone by the time 29 rolls around.

Will Holmes make it three years in a row with an Alabama pick? We're going to see pretty soon.
