Lions Jameson Williams’ mistake in loss to the Eagles just got worse

Jamo has to pay for it in more ways than one

I still maintain that this whole thing is just wildly overblown, and in no way, shape, or form did it cost the Detroit Lions a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s just a dumb penalty that doesn’t hurt anyone or break anything.

I mean, if Jameson Williams had gone full 1992 Shaqullie O’Neal and ripped down the goal post, then I can understand it. But he didn’t. He hugged it.

The NFL fined Jameson Williams $14,491 for his touchdown celebration against the Eagles

So, now you’re not the only one who has to be punished as you listen to your crazy uncle call 97.1 The Ticket and talk about how back in his day, he used to score a touchdown and then hand he ball to the official, then shake his hand and then salute the American flag while leading the crowd in a rendition of Amazing Grace.

Williams also gets punished far more than necessary, in my opinion.

But there is a history. This will be Williams’ fifth fine for a post-touchdown celebration. There was the field humping during the Commanders’ game, the Marshawn Lynch tribute against the Jaguars, and more. His fine total for celebrations is now up to $96,430.

Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens did the exact same celebration the next night and was also fined $26,085. So don’t worry; nobody got away with it. If anything, the NFL is being harder on Pickens because the whole league saw Williams do it the night before, and he should have known better.
