Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes says everyone will look back and laugh at some of the troubles Detroit has had this season
The message in the Lions locker room is all about controlling what they can control
The Detroit Lions are hanging on by a thread right now. They have three games left, and the margin of error for their season is small. If they win these three games, they have a 94% chance of making the playoffs.
There’s even a pretty good chance they can squeak out a third straight NFC North title. Either way, it’s hard for fans and media not to see this season as a setback for the Lions. But that’s not how Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes sees it.
Derrick Barnes says the Lions will look back and laugh once they are where they want to be
“We have to control what we can control,” Barnes said. “Obviously, we know what’s at stake, and we just have to take it day by day and week by week to be able to get to our goal. I think we will do that. So I’m super excited, and I think that we’ll look back at everything that’s happened this season and just laugh at it. Because I think that once we get into what we want to, I think the sky’s the limit for us.” Barnes said. “I wouldn’t really necessarily call it a setback now. We can’t win every game, but you know, I think it shaped us into who we are today.”
Barnes went on to say that Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been in everyone’s ear, and the big message is not to panic. As we know, Campbell has talked about the quicksand effect of being too urgent in the past, but the urgency is there for the Lions.
According to Barnes, the team is looking forward to the challenge. That meshes pretty well with what the team has been saying for years: maybe they play their best ball when everyone thinks they’re dead.
