Lions Mailbag: What would it take for Aaron Glenn to be dismissed?

Welcome to Week 13 of the Detroit Lions Mailbag. We've got some great questions this week. A lot of doom and gloom, but that's ok. We'll get past it. Let's jump into it with a Jared Goff question.

Absolutely. I know that he had two bad games back to back, but that came after something like 20 really good games. Goff has been playing the best ball of his career since last year. Two bad games isn't going to change the teams view of him because every quarterback has bad days. It's just something that happens. The Lions will still look to pay Goff after this season and he's still going to be their guy going forward.

More than this. I know you're mad. I totally get it. But if you were looking at this from outside your fandom, you would see that it's not that bad. The Lions defense had hard games against the Chargers and Ravens, but they haven't been completely horrible outside of that. Even on Thursday the Lions cleaned things up after the Packers first two drives and only allowed 10 points after that.

This is not the leagues best defense. I'm not saying that. This is a very young group and they're not a finished product yet. I think that's one of the issues that Lions fans need to find a way to work through. If this was a finished and championship level unit and Glenn was coaching it really bad, then I could see why he needs to go. But they aren't.

This doesn't mean that I think he's doing a really good job or anything. Glenn needs to be better, but I don't know if we're near the point where he needs to be dragged out the door just yet.

I don't know what is going on there. He was back at practice last week and was a healthy scratch on Thursday. Quinton Bohanna had a good game against the Bears and I think the Lions wanted to take another look at him Thursday. He did not have a good outing against the Packers though. So maybe Buggs will be back in the lineup on Sunday against the Saints. We'll see.

Better coverage would go a long way for the Lions defensive front. Teams have found a way to combat this unit. It's shotgun and double or triple Hutchinson while getting the ball out fast. If the secondary can stop getting beat off the line, the Lions offensive line might have more of a chance to succeed. I think they should go away from man defense and give their corners a little cushion to work off of.

As far as Irvin goes, he's demonstrated as early as last year that he can still play the game. I don't think he comes in and everything is magically fixed, but I think he will help for sure. Even if it's just helping the young guys figure it out.

It certainly looks that way. Houston has been working on the sidelines with trainers in recent weeks and Campbell said a few weeks ago that Houston should be back in December. We'll see what part of December that is.

As far as Gardner-Johnson goes, it's up in the air right now. He first said he would be back during the divisional round of the playoffs, then he said he'd be back against the Bears in a couple weeks, but Dan Campbell refuted that. He was at the Thanksgiving game and was on the field doing pushups with the team. It could be coming, but it's hard to tell.

Extremely thin to none. Hooker has never even practiced in the NFL before. He may be doing that this week, but it's going to take a lot more than a few weeks of practice to get on the field for the Lions.

I know that some fans have this idea that maybe by the end of the year if the Lions have already clinched that maybe he'll get a chance. That's just very unlikely. Even if the Lions are up fifty points, I don't think he sees the field this year.

I wouldn't expect to see Hooker until next year when he takes the field for a preseason game.

Could the Lions be the best landing spot for Marcus Peters?

The Detroit Lions really need some help in the secondary. That's really been displayed in the past few weeks with teams giving Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs all they can handle. One intriguing option became available on Monday afternoon. That's former All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters.  The Raiders released Peters on Monday after he had been […]
