The Detroit Lions scored a massive offseason win on Tuesday when it was reported that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is headed back to Motown for another year commanding Jared Goff's offense.

When the news was reported, ESPN's Adam Schefter included an important detail, claiming that Johnson's asking price to be head coach "spooked some teams."

That immediately snowballed into a silly storyline among fans and media that made it seem like Johnson was too greedy. Otherwise, how could money have kept him from joining an organization like the Washington Commanders, who seem more than willing to invest some money to rebuild the franchise they found in a poor state.

But Schefter quickly followed up his report by explaining why Johnson's biggest motivation source isn't at all financial by hinting that his contract with the Lions was not adjusted for him to stay for 2024. In other words, he didn't use his interviews as leverage with the Lions.

Lions fans should be excited about the news. Him turning down a possibility for the Commanders' job speaks volumes about how bad he wants to win in Detroit. Despite years of turmoil, Washington is one of the most attractive jobs in the league right now. They've got a front office that wants do things the right way and the second overall pick, with which they can take one of the best quarterbacks of a loaded quarterback class.

But I guess you can't beat the Lions' vibes these days. Last year, Johnson said he realized what Ford Field could look like for a playoff game. This year, he didn't have to imagine it because he lived it. And he seemingly wants some more of that.
