Well here's one I didn't think we'd see on a random Tuesday nine weeks into the season. The Detroit Lions biggest move of the offseason came when offensive coordinator Ben Johnson seemingly spurned the Washington Commanders and decided to stay with the Lions.
Turns out there was chance that might not have happened had another team made what now seems like the right move to everyone. Sports Illustrated's NFL insider Albert Breer spoke on ESPN Chicago on Tuesday morning and said it was the Bears job that Johnson really wanted.
"He was definitely looking at the Chicago job last year." Breer said. "There were some people who thought that's the one he wanted, and obviously it didn't come open."
As we know, the Bears kept Matt Eberflus after two not so good seasons. While the Bears are currently holding a winning record, it's really hard to look at Sunday's loss to the Commanders and not square a ton of the blame onto Eberflus.
Imagine what the Bears could look like with Johnson at the helm and with all the weapons and Caleb Williams at his disposable. Imagine what that Lions vs Bears game could have looked like in a few weeks with the Johnson taking on Dan Campbell in a divisional matchup. The Bears may have robbed everyone of some fun storylines.
The Lions lucked out in the end though and now they're a team that's routinely putting up 40 points as a of late. They've done it in three of the last four games.
