The annual NFL owners meeting will take place in Orland on March 24th. Teams are able to propose new league rules at this event and the Lions are once again proposing a new rule. They previously proposed the emergency quarterback rule and that rule went into effect last season. This year they're proposing a a rule about challenging plays. Here's the proposal from NFL Communications.
Right now NFL teams are allowed to challenge a ruling twice in a game. The Lions are proposing that teams get a third challenge if one of their previously used two challenges is ruled correct.
Their reasoning behind the proposal is that it will both protect coaches and the integrity of the game. We'll see if this proposal is turned into a rule at the NFL owners meeting.
The Lions are also proposing some roster rules. They are proposing, along with other teams, the trade deadline gets moved back to a later date. They're also proposing for unlimited injured reserve returns and eliminating the requirement for players to be on the active roster for one day after cutdowns so they can be eligible injured reserve returns.
