The Detroit Lions continue to build out their coaching staff as they replace a great deal of guys lost to promotions. This time they’ll reportedly add Iowa State Assistant Head Coach Tyler Roehl to the staff as an offensive assistant.

Roehl played just one season in the NFL as a running back for the Seahawks, but he has been coaching for quite some time now and as an assistant, he's won seven FCS National championships with North Dakota State.

In addition to being a running back coach, Reohl has also been a tight ends coach. One has to wonder if he will be the guy who fills in for Steve Heiden now that he has headed to the Jets. It's someone who understands coaching tight ends and a run game. So it makes some sense.

The other thing is that he could certainly bend Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes' ears on the idea of drafting Iowa State receiver Jayden Higgins in the 2025 NFL Draft. Higgins is currently being looked at as the draft's third-best receiver and he has a lot of what the Lions need in terms of size and speed. He's currently slated to go in the second round.

We'll find out soon enough what Roehl's exact role will be on this coaching staff, but the Lions' continuance of hiring former players continues.
