Lions safety Kerby Joseph’s knee injury ‘not considered career-altering’ despite online speculation
A massively positive update on Kerby Joseph
On Monday, I sat down and wrote up an editorial strictly based on how Detroit Lions fans and media need to stop reading too much into the social media activity of players.
In the summer, I also wrote about how we need to stop listening to doctors or medical professionals who have not actually seen or treated players, after some Twitter doctors speculated that Aidan Hutchinson’s leg might never fully recover before it did.
On Tuesday, we got more proof of that when NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that, per a source, Kerby Joseph plans to play this season and that his knee injury is not career-altering as some had speculated on social media.
So I say again: it’s time to stop listening to people who may have a medical degree but have never seen or treated a player and have made a very public diagnosis based on a tiny snippet from a Dan Campbell press conference. It’s clearly irresponsible to do so, and people believed it and started talking to Joseph on Twitter about how his career is over and how the Lions need to find a way out of his contract.
As for Joseph’s status for Thursday’s game against the Cowboys, we don’t know yet. He returned to practice on Monday with a knee brace and then missed Tuesday’s practice. We’ll see what happens when the game designations come out. As for now, missing Tuesday’s practice is not considered a setback by the Lions or Joseph.
