Lions sign former Falcons starting safety who once led the league in interceptions
Lions add some much needed veteran help with Brian Branch out for the season
After the loss of Brian Branch, the Detroit Lions needed some safety help. One guy who made a lot of sense was a guy we brought up early November, that’s Damontae Kazee. Well, he’s now signed with the Lions’ practice squad, and the plan is to get him on the 53-man roster as soon as possible.
Lions sign veteran safety Damontae Kazee to practice squad
The Browns and Kazee mutually parted ways in November, making him a free agent. The veteran safety is in his ninth season, having played for the Browns, Falcons, Cowboys, and Steelers. He’s been more of a depth piece in recent years, but in 2018, he led the league in interceptions as a starter for the Falcons.
In Detroit, he has the chance to possibly start or play a vital depth role with Avonte Maddox and Kerby Joseph likely to be the starting safeties down the stretch. We don’t know what might happen with Thomas Harper since he’s in concussion protocol.
