The Detroit Lions need some help on their defensive line. Especially if Alim McNeill is expected to miss any time. The Lions went out and got that help on Tuesday when they signed for 10th overall pick Tyson Alualu.
Alualu was Jaguars top pick in 2010 and while he struggled to live up to his draft status, he's managed to stay put in the NFL for the last 13 years. Alulalu spent his first seven seasons with the Jaguars and then the next six seasons with the Steelers. He played 17 games for the Steelers last year and started two of them. Alualu has 113 career starts in 191 games. He also has 25 career sacks.
Alualu had career seasons with the Steelers in 2019 and 2020 before fracturing his ankle in 2021. His play took a big dip after that and he's been a free agent for a while now. He's been working and he looks like he's in the best psychical shape of his career. Ankle seems to be working well too.
Much like Bruce Irvin, expect Alualu to take a week or two to get settled in and in football playing shape. This is a good depth piece for when McNeill comes back.
