The Detroit Lions got the news on Wednesday night that they will, in fact, be without Brian Branch on Monday Night Football. After his appeal, his suspension was upheld. In response to that, the Lions are adding former fifth-round pick Jammie Robinson to their practice squad.

Robinson was taken in the 2023 NFL Draft, and before the draft took place in April, the Lions had a formal meeting with him at the combine. We know they were looking for a safety in that draft because they took Branch in he second round. Robinson went to the Panthers in the fifth.

He played 15 games in his rookie season and then six in 2024 before he was waived by Carolina. The Cardinals claimed him and spent the rest of the season with them. After signing a futures deal, the Cardinals waived him at final cut downs this summer, and then the Chiefs signed him to their practice squad. Robinson had his practice squad contract terminated earlier Wednesday morning, and it didn’t take long to find a new home.

Robinson has two starts in the NFL, and he played fairly well in both of them. He’s a solid tackler who has run-stopping ability, too. We’ll see if the Lions look to elevate him against the Buccaneers on Monday night.
