Sunday was a rough day for the Detroit Lions. More than anything, it was a tough day for their secondary that allowed Lamar Jackson to pick them apart with 357 yards and three touchdowns. They were averaging 12.8 yards per play in the pass game. Even their full back ripped off a 28 yard catch.

So with the trade deadline just over one week away, It's trade season. Deals do happen on deadline day, but they're more likely to happen this week. With that in mind, here's five cornerbacks that the Lions should be attempting to trade for this week:

Jaylon Johnson

Johnson is a guy that could come in and be a starter right away. You might be hesitant to get on board here because it might seem like he’s a guy the Bears wouldn’t trade, but he’s been in the conversation the whole time. The big reason here is that he’s in the final year of his rookie deal and the bill is about to come due on him. The Lions have the means to bring him in via trade and then sign him to a new deal if they wanted to. In return they get a new cornerback one. This would help take the pressure off Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs and give the Lions their best chance to have a strong CB room.

What's it going to cost? I would imagine a high day three pick could get it done. Something like a fourth-round pick and some change.

Donte Jackson

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Panthers have both received trade calls on Jackson and have reached out to teams about him per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and the Athletics’ Joe Person. Jackson is a guy that’s just in a bad situation. He plays for maybe the worst team in football right now. In the past he’s shown that he can be a pretty decent corner. This would be a another reclamation project for the Lions coaching staff for sure. The good thing is that it’s a relatively inexpensive one. Jackson has a base salary of just over a million dollars this year and if things didn’t work out, there’s an out in his contract after this season and the Lions can move on with basically no loss to their pocket book.

This would be a late round pick. Something like a sixth or seventh.

Adoree’ Jackson

I included Jackson in a previous trade target piece because I think he’s a steal if the Giants decide to move on from him like they’re rumored to be doing. Jackson isn’t having his best season, but much like Donte Jackson, I think it’s the team he’s on that’s causing all the problems. Jackson has been very good through his career until this season. I just find it hard to believe that he’s suddenly done. I think he gets right back on the right track in Detroit.

The rumors out there are that Julian Okwara could be dealt. At one point the Giants were interested. Here's a straight up deal that could be done.

Darnay Holmes

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Why not take a shot at one young guy that hasn’t proven it yet? Sutton and Jacobs have been pretty good together outside of Sunday when Jacobs was out and Sutton was getting beat up. This group needs some depth beyond Will Harris and couple of undrafted players. Holmes could come into Detroit and be that depth piece that could get better over time. The Giants don’t seem to want him anymore. he’s only played 25 snaps this season. They were 25 pretty good snaps though for what it’s worth.

A future seventh round pick could do it. Maybe even one with some conditions on it.

Patrick Surtain II

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

You ever hear the expression about missing all the shots that you don’t take? This is a longshot, but the Lions have to at least shoot that shot like I’m sure a bunch of teams will do this week. Surtain is an immediate difference maker in the Lions secondary. He takes the CB1 job right away and shows why he’s a Pro Bowl corner.

The Broncos are reportedly not looking to trade Surtain, but they will listen to offers. That offer is going to have to be a big one without question. When you're trading for a premium player, you have to pay premium costs. According to NFL insider Charles Robinson, the Broncos won't even begin to listen to an offer unless it includes two first round picks and a player asset.

I know you might think that's too much, but if you want to win, these types of moves can be necessary. You may also think that you know Brad Holmes wouldn't do it because he's a build through the trade type of guy, but I don't think we've seen everything from Holmes yet and this is a guy that comes from a franchise that didn't mind selling off assets for big time players. That same team was also once a team that was building almost exclusively through the draft.

Lions linked to Brian Burns and one other by NFL Insider

The Detroit Lions had rough day on Sunday when they went to Baltimore and got manhandled by the Ravens 38-6. One thing that was apparent in this game is that the Lions need help in a few different areas. One of those being pass rusher.  Turns out that word around the league is that the […]
