This one doesn’t seem like a real possibility

The NFL trade deadline is right around the corner on Nov. 4. We know that the Detroit Lions are already making calls looking for an edge rusher.

With that in mind, we will look at each edge rusher that could be available for trade. We’ll put together a proposal and go over the potential cost of each deal and what the Lions could get from each player. So far, we’ve covered Titans edge rusher Arden Key and Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips.

I don’t have much evidence to speak on this. Still, it seems like every year, right before the deadline, one team that’s supposed to be really bad, which everyone expects to unload players, has a dominant win that tricks them into thinking everything is OK, so they don’t move anyone. That happened to the Dolphins on Sunday, as they beat the Falcons 34-10.

They shouldn’t allow that to trick them. This team should still be looking toward the future. Part of that comes with ridding themselves of some of their bigger contracts. That’s where Chubb comes into play. Right now, the former fifth-overall pick has a large deal with a cap hit of over $30 million in 2026 and 2027.

For that reason alone, it’s incredibly hard to see the Lions doing this deal, and you can almost bet your bottom dollar they won’t. While they’ve been pretty smart about how they’re doing their bigger extensions lately, by keeping cap hits low in the first few years, they’re not doing that, so they can get Chubb’s massive cap hits in here to mess that up.

On top of it all, Chubb is likely to cost the most out of anyone on the market when it comes to trade value because the former Pro Bowler is going to be viewed that way. It wouldn’t be anything super high, but I doubt the Lions want to give this up for that contract.

While it’s possible to get Chubb in the building and restructure his deal and all that jazz, it’s not worth it for the Lions to make this move. In my opinion, they should be all-in on the guy opposite him, Jaelan Phillips. He’s a better player and cheaper all around.
