On Monday the Lions signed guard Ike Boetgger and brought their roster up to the 90 player limit ahead of camp. On the first day of training camp, the Lions dipped back down to 89 when they waived guard Matt Farniok.
Farniok spent part the 2023 season on the Lions practice squad and then they signed him to a futures deal in January. The signing of Boetgger likely had a lot to do with him being waived because the team had 18 offensive linemen and someone had to go. Now the Lions have an open roster spot. We'll see what they plan to do with it.
The Lions also added some more players to the Active/Non Football Injury list on Wednesday after adding rookie Giovanni Manu on Monday. Receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones and Tre'Quan Smith are now added and cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson will join them.
Players can come of this list relatively soon, so there's no reason to panic. By the way, we got some good news on a few guys that were added to the PUP list earlier in the week from Lions' head coach Dan Campbell.
"Reader's on course. We're not in any hurry with him, but he's doing well. He's getting his strength back. The injury is healed. So it's a matter of getting him to that point where we feel comfortable getting him out there competing around others. You'll see Davenport out there today. You'll see Branch out there today in walk throughs. So these guys are slowly going. I think Davenport is going to be a little quicker than Branch is, but they'll both be out there in some capacity, which is a good sign. So no setbacks. You know, we're moving right along"
Good to hear. We'll keep you updated on any other injury news as the team reports it.
