Detroit Lions receiver Marvin Jones did not travel with the team to Baltimore this past Sunday. He was declared out on Saturday for personal reasons. That absence will be extended as Jones is stepping away from the Lions completely for the foreseeable future to tend to family matters. Jones put this statement up on his Instagram on Tuesday.
"I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford Family, the city of Detroit, my teammates, and coaches. To be brief, I a m stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters. Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar. This organization has been amazing showing love and support for myself and my family over the years and this time is no different. For that I am appreciative. To my brothers and coaches, I will be rooting for you every step of the way! This is the year! Go get it!!!
Love and respect to ALL!"
Jones will be released from the Lions roster as part of mutual agreement between the team and the receiver. This will open up a roster spot. No word yet on what the Lions will do to fill that spot.
In terms of Jones, it's not know what the matter is and it's not any of our business. We simply hope for the best for a truly great guy.
