NFL Insider says David Montgomery wants out of the Lions, Montgomery responds on social media
More twists and turns are here on the saga of Montgomery and the Lions
It’s been the thing that everyone has been talking about for the last two months. What is going to happen with David Montgomery and the Detroit Lions?
Not long ago, Brad Holmes talked about the possibility of trading him, and then at the Pro Bowl, Jahmyr Gibbs said it was all essentially up to Montgomery. Montgomery certainly talked like a guy who is staying. Then Drew Petzing’s comments alluded to the idea that he’d like to have Montgomery and Gibbs together. Then Brad Holmes’ comments at the Combine did not seem very good. Now there’s this:
ESPN’s NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler reports that David Montgomery wants out of Detroit
On top of that, the Lions would like a high Day 3 pick to get it done. This gels pretty well with everything we’ve been hearing and seeing from this situation. Holmes has publicly said twice that the Lions would like to keep Montgomery, but that a player has to want to be here. Then Gibbs said it was all up to Montgomery when it comes to him staying with the Lions.
If both parties wanted to stay together and there was no doubt in that, then both parties probably would have just said or at least signaled in some way that they’re staying together by now, right? All we’ve gotten so far are twists and turns. To make it even more fun, Montgomery just gave another one.
David Montgomery responded to Fowler’s report on Twitter
Ok, so now what is anyone to think about this situation? You’d like to think that Montgomery is saying here that the story is bologna and he wants to stay. It was bologna enough for him to get on Twitter for the first time since March of 2024 to dispute it. But he’s not really even disputing it, per se.
He’s disputing the report. That is abundantly clear. But he’s also, again, not just coming out and saying he wants to stay in Detroit. That is all anyone wants to hear at this point. Do you want to be here? Yes or no? Frankly, this could be a false hope type situation that could result in more hurt feelings than it needs to.
At the end of the day, we’ll keep waiting to see what happens. But no questions really got answered on Sunday.
