The Detroit Lions are on the edge of maybe keeping their offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and maybe not keeping him. At this point we're waiting to hear what the Commanders are going to do and we could get that answer next week. If Johnson does indeed leave, one of the most popular in house candidates to takeover as OC might not be here at that time.

Engstrand has long been considered to be one of the top options to be the Lions next offensive coordinator since he's worked hand in hand with Johnson on building the Lions offense up to what it is now. Part of the problem with that success is that everyone is going to want to take pieces away from you to bring that success over to their side of the board.

At this point, it's just a plan to interview Engstrand. If Johnson leaves, the Lions can still make Engstrand an offer if keep him here in town to be their next offensive coordinator. If Johnson goes, Montgomery, who is now the Lions assistant head coach and running backs coach, is a guy that's already had his name attached to the position for other teams. The Bucs interviewed him to be their OC last season before they hired Dave Canales
