Pay attention to this Notre Dame edge rusher, the Lions sure seem to be
The Lions just keep going back to watch this kid
The Detroit Lions have been hitting the road all season, scouting different players from different schools. It’s hard to know every place they’ve been, but last Saturday, we know they had scouts at the Notre Dame vs Pitt game. This is the third time that the Lions have had scouts at a Notre Dame game this year. They were at Notre Dame vs USC and Notre Dame vs Texas A&M.
There are a few players that the Lions could have their eyes on, like guard Charles Jagusah, who is hurt now, running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, safety Jalen Stroman is also a name to watch, and tight end Eli Rairdon. Still, I think it’s the guy making some noise off the edge out there.
The Lions seem to have their eyes on Notre Dame edge rusher Boubacar Traore
Traore is having a low-key, very good season right now. He has 29 pressures, 6.5 sacks, 18 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. He’s graded pretty well across the board by Pro Football Focus. His highest grade actually comes in coverage, where we saw the Lions try to drop some edges into this season. Maybe they see a future in that.
We wanted to know more about Traore, so we reached out to our Notre Dame beat writer, Ryan Roberts, to get a scouting report. Here’s what he had to say:
“Before suffering a leg injury early on in the 2024 season, Traore was well on his way to a dominant campaign last year. Since coming back from that injury, he has picked up a bit where he left off and has been the best pass rusher for the Irish this season. He currently leads the team with 6.5 sacks, which is especially impressive considering that Traore missed the game against Navy a couple of weeks ago.
The crazy part about Traore is that we are just getting a taste for good he can be long-term. You can still tell that his knee is rounding back into form, which bodes well for the future as he gets fully back to his old self. At 6-4 and 250 pounds, Traore has an extremely long frame with vines for arms. His bend for a player of his build is perhaps the most impressive part of his game. As his power continues to develop, Traore has the upside to become a plus starter on the next level and an extremely productive pass rusher.”
Right now, Traore is slated to go on day three with projections having him in the mid-third round to high fourth round area. The Lions have multiple picks around there. The NFL Draft is a living organism, though. Things really start to change after the All-Star Games, NFL Combine, and pro days. He could rise and he could fall. Let’s see what happens. Maybe he goes from green and gold to Honolulu blue next year.
