The college football season is coming really fast. It'll be here before the NFL season starts. Technically it starts next week when EA Sports releases the College Football 25 video game and that will be just about all anyone does for the next month or so.
Pro Football Focus' draft expert Trevor Sikkema put out a list of offensive players for each team and their fans to keep an eye on during the college season. For the Lions, he selected Stanford receiver Elic Ayomanor. Here's his thoughts:
"I am calling my shot here: I love this player-team fit. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Ayomanor tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus before Week 1 of his true freshman season, rehabbed during all of 2022, and came back in 2023 to showcase an all-around skill set that featured track background speed, nuanced releases and routes, and above-average blocking strength and mentality.
Get him in a group with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and Detroit's offense will continue to cook."
So far receiver has been the popular choice for the Lions in next years draft. ESPN's Matt Miller selected Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka in his first 2025 NFL Mock draft last week. It makes sense since the Lions would go this way since they lost Josh Reynolds in free agency and there's a lot of questions at receiver beyond St. Brown and and Williams.
Both those options are good, but we'll add a four other names to watch.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
This is the dream here. McMillian is a 6-foot-5, 231 pound freak of an athlete that can fly down the field and can go up and make insane contested catches with his giant hands. The problem is that he's probably going to be the top receiver off the board next year. Still, watch just because he's fun and you never know.
Tre Harris, WR, Ole Miss
Harris is another guy that has some size to him. He's 6-foot-2 and while he doesn't have the freak size of McMillian, he can fly down the field. He ran a 4.40 forty-yard dash. He also has a great catch radius and can make some spectacular catches.
Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
Yes, a quarterback. Just because the Lions have Jared Goff locked up and Hendon Hooker is here, that doesn't mean they won't be tempted to take their guy of the future in 2025. Considering that Milroe will be just 22 years old next year, he could be one to watch in the late first or second-round.
Jonah Monheim, C, USC
Frank Ragnow is not retiring this year, but he likely will sooner rather than later due to injuries. The Lions have their guards and tackles of the future set for the most part, but they don't have a man in the middle. Monheim might be the best center in college football right now and he is slated to be the top center in next years draft. He can sit under the learning tree for a bit until Ragnow retires and then come in and do his thing.
5 Lions’ players that could make their very first All-Pro team in 2024
Last year was a big year for the Detroit Lions. They had five players get All-Pro honors. Amon-Ra St, Brown, Sam Laporta, Penei Sewell, Frank Ragnow and Jalen Reeves-Maybin were all selected for the first times in their career. They all have a chance to make it there again in 2024, but we think they'll […]
