I know, this is dumb. This whole thing has been dumb and everyone knows it's been dumb. But part of the job is that you have to report stuff. Texas A&M recently fired their head coach Jimbo Fisher. The Athletic's Bruce Feldmen then reported on Sunday that Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was on the Aggies wish list to take over the their head coaching job.
There is an obvious connection there. Campbell is from Texas and played for Texas A&M from 1995 to 1998 before being drafted by the Giants in the 1999 NFL Draft.
Well, you can forget about this whole thing now. Per CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, Texas A&M reached out to Campbell's people to gauge interest and Campbell declined the opportunity.
"Sources told CBS Sports on Tuesday. After backchannel communications were initiated by the Aggies, it was made clear that Campbell would be staying in the NFL with the Lions."
So there you go. That wraps up that. I know most people weren't concerned, but if you were, there you go. Nothing to worry about.
The fact that Texas A&M ever thought this was a possibility is just insane to me personally.
