On Saturday we started something new with the Detroit Lions. The plan was to use statistics and analytics to predict which four players could have the biggest days against the Los Angels Chargers and then come back and revisit those four players to see if the predictions were right.

The Lions went out and won an all out shootout 41-38. Now it's time to take a look at how the players stood up to the predictions.

Aidan Hutchison

The prediction was that Hutchinson could eat in this game based off the Chargers allowing 11 of their 20 total sacks in their last four games. The other part of that was that Chargers Trey Pipkins had allowed four sacks in the last four games.

Hutchinson did not eat in this game. He had some hurries, some pressures and some quarterback hits, but he never got home for a sack. A lot of that has to do with the attention that was put on him and the Chargers up tempo offense that sucked the life out of the Lions defense. He had a strong chance late in the game, but Herbert was able to escape.

Jared Goff

The prediction was that Goff could go off in this game base on how much the Chargers had allowed in the pass game. Goff has always been good over the middle, but it was the outside where I felt he could some real damage in this game. He definitely did that.

Goff threw the ball just about everywhere on Sunday. He got the outside shots that I thought he could get and he of course hit over the middle too. It was one of the sharpest games we've seen him play. He completed 69.7% of his passes. That was one of the best completion percentages of the day. Only Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy and Mac Jones had a better day. Yes, I said Mac Jones. He completed 75% of his passes in Germany. They just weren't for much and one of those incompletions was a really bad one.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

St. Brown had himself a day as predicted. He had eight catches for a career high 156 yards and a touchdown. The big part of the prediction was that he would have a big day on the outside as opposed to working in the slot. Let's see how that panned out.

Not as much outside stuff as I thought he might get. It's there and there's some success with it, but St. Brown really the over the middle and then made more out of the play than was initially there on some of these. Either way, a very solid game for St. Brown

Penei Sewell

Yet another big game from Penei Sewell. He hadn't allowed a sack all year coming into this game and he once again did not allow one here. The big challenge was having to stop Joey Bosa. I ask you this, do you even remember hearing Bosa's name on Sunday? Probably not, because Bosa did nothing in this game. He had no sacks and had no hurries or pressures either. He finished the day with one tackle that came in the second quarter.
