The Lions are likely not going to sign any more free agents any time soon, here's why

The Detroit Lions got very active during the first two weeks of NFL free agency. It might not seem like it because they didn't go out and make any huge splash signings, but they did add seven new players.

On top of that, they also brought back 16 of their own players. That's probably going to do it for the Lions at this point. Maybe they add one more, but the likelihood is that they're done. Why? Pride of Detroit's Erik Schlitt brings up a pretty good reason as to why. They're running out of room.

As Erik points out, the Lions have 72 players under contract as we speak and they cannot exceed 90 players. That leaves 18 spots to fill. Now let's play it safe and add eight players in the draft assuming the Lions make a trade down or something like that. Now there are 10 spots open for undrafted free agents. The Lions signed 15 last year and 15 the year before that. They're gonna add guys for sure.

Now, you can make an argument that there are some players on the Lions roster right now that you might think they could part with, but Detroit sees something in some of those guys and there's also some that they haven't even had the chance to work with yet. That's not really good business to bring someone in and then drop them before you've even seen a rep.

We'll see what the Lions do going forward. If you're asking me, I think they should try to add a guard like Will Hernandez or Brandon Scherff before they call it a day. But maybe they feel they could do better in the draft.
