The Detroit Lions are back on primetime this Sunday night against the 6-3 Houston Texans. This is one that has to be circled on the scheduled for everyone all season. Two exciting young teams going at it under the lights.
We wanted to know more about the Texans, so we reached out to our Texans writer Justin Churchill with a few questions. Here's what he had to say:
The Texans offensive line is struggling this year, Can the Lions get home without Hutchinson?
"The Lions can certainly get home without Hutchinson. The offensive line is one of the worst in football, and that shows in their sack numbers, where they are allowing CJ Stroud to get hit more than any quarterback in the league not named DeShaun Watson. The line is the root of all the offensive issues they have had thus far, and with no real big moves made at the deadline, I can’t see that changing anytime soon."
Is Nico Collins expected to play? If not, who’s the guy to worry about behind him?
"Nico Collins has passed all the protocol things he’s needed to pass when you deal with a hamstring. He’s even running over 20 MPH on the treadmill, but there is still a sense that he could sit out this one and play the next. If true, it has to be Tank Dell that the Texans will go to. He had a huge game last week after being almost non-existent for most of the season. John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson have made some big time plays as well."
The Texans feel like they should have been a lot better than they are, what’s going on?
"The Texans are dealing with a ton of injuries to some big time players, just like the entire league is. It I think there is this sense that every has that feels like they should be blowing teams out based on what we saw last year and they moves they made in the offseason. The reality is, the offense hasn’t been great and the defense has. And until the offensive line gets their stuff together, that won’t change."
Where can the Lions offense beat this team up?
"I think even with the amazing offensive line the Lions have, they will have trouble with the Texans edge rushers, and that’s if Will Anderson plays. The two of them are both top five in pressures this year, and Danielle Hunter has tallied 54, the most in the league. If they want to beat up on the Texans defense, it will have to be in the secondary, where the success from last season hasn’t carried over as much as maybe everyone thought it would."
Brad Holmes and Lions’ activity and comments in 2024 show they’re very close to adopting the Rams’ former ‘F them picks’ mentality and taking a big swing like trading for Myles Garrett
Personally, I've never once believed some of the things that I know other writers or Detroit Lions fans believe when it comes to Lions GM Brad Holmes. I totally get why people believe that they have Holmes figured out because during his time here, he's largely shown us one way of acquiring players and that's […]
