The Lions have scheduled their first top-30 visit with Tennessee edge rusher
29 more visits to go for the Lions
The 2026 NFL Combine is over, and now it’s time to move to the next step of the pre-draft process for the Detroit Lions. That’s going to pro days and having top-30 visits.
Top-30 visits are not the Lions having visits with the top 30 players on their board. They probably shouldn’t be called top-30s. What they are is each team gets 30 visits in which they can invite a player to Detroit, do medical checks, workouts, and interviews. The Lions have their first top-30 on the board.
The Lions will bring in Tennessee edge rusher Tyre West for a top-30 visit
West is an intriguing player. He has a lot of Marcus Davenport-like assets. This is not an injury thing. He’s a big edge who specializes in stopping the run and has some pass-rush ability. In 2025, he put up 16 pressures and four sacks as part of the Vols rotation.
We wanted to know a little more about West, so we reached out to our Tennessee beat writer, Zach Ragan, to get some info. Here’s what he had to say:
“Tyre West is a former four-star recruit who was a productive player for the Vols during his four seasons in Knoxville. West, however, never seemed to take the next step from being a rotational player (part of the reason is due to the Vols’ philosophy of heavily rotating their defensive linemen). The Georgia native played 281 snaps in 2025 (by comparison, true freshman CB Ty Redmond led UT in defensive snaps at 783).”
“West started the 2025 season on a strong note, totaling 15 tackles and four sacks in the first four games of the season, but he didn’t record more than two tackles in a game over the rest of the season (nor did he record another sack after Week 4). West is a true defensive end who can slide inside if needed, though he’ll need to add some weight to play inside at the next level. He’ll likely serve as defensive end depth if he makes a 53-man roster.”
You’ll notice that Ragan says, “if he makes the 53-man roster.” That’s because West is expected to be an undrafted free agent this year. It is not at all uncommon for teams to bring in players who aren’t expected to get drafted for these types of visits. The Lions have been doing this every year.
We’ll see if they like what West can bring in April, at or right after the 2026 NFL Draft.
