It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win

Look, I don’t know what to tell you. That wasn’t pretty. But a win is a win in this league, and you have to take the ones you get. The Giants are no joke.

Yes, they’ve won just two games this year, but they’ve lost seven games by a touchdown or less. They will fight you to the death. The Lions squeaked out the 34-27 overtime win and lived in this one.

Never apologize for a win in the NFL

The Lions didn’t have a good day of football. They got beat pretty badly all over, but they hung in, made plays when they needed to, and walked out with a win. Now, they’re staring down the barrel of a short week where they’ll play the Packers on Thanksgiving, and the Bears will have to take on the Eagles. Week 13 is huge.

What a kick from Jake Bates

Seriously, there was some Angels in the End Zone stuff happening with this one. It basically zig-zagged its way to the goal post and just went in. But man, what a kick in a moment where the Lions needed it. Finding a kicker is not easy, but the Lions are one of the lucky teams that have their guy.

St. Drop

I don’t know what is going on with Amon-Ra St. Brown. I won’t dive into some of the conspiracy theories out there. I certainly won’t blame it on his podcast or the fact that he made custom cleats, like the rest of the league did this week, but something is happening here, and maybe the Lions are ready to talk about it after this one.

This just isn’t what we’re used to seeing from him at all. He’s been the most sure-handed receiver in the league for years. Even with all that, St. Brown still had nine catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. So what are we really complaining about here?

Too many explosives allowed

The Lions’ defense, which has been one of the best in the league all season long, took the day off in this one, and the Giants threw explosives at them all day.

They had gains of 23, 39, 40, 42, 26, 24, 20, 31, and 39 yards. I mean, what can you do when you’re giving up plays like this over and over again? The Lions tried to switch from man to zone, and that didn’t work either. The Giants just had them figured out at every single turn until overtime, when the Lions got stops and won the game.

Finally, a DPI call

Believe it or not, the Lions have not been the recipients of a defensive pass interference call all season long. Finally, they got one in the second half of this game when St. Brown drew one.

What’s even crazier is that they only got one to go their way in 2024, too.

Gibbs is getting closer and closer to Barry Sanders’ record

Before Barry Sanders turned 24, he scored an NFL record 47 touchdowns. That’s the most touchdowns scored by a player under the age of 24. On Sunday, Gibbs ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns and got himself to second all-time on the list with 44 touchdowns. He turns 24 in March and now has the rest of the season to ry ot break this record. With all these hat tricks, it’s not hard to see it happening soon.

Can we talk about how good Jack Fox is?

Jack Fox balled out in this game. The Giants had starting field positions inside their own 15-yard line seven times in this game. Any time you force a team to start in the shadow of their own goal post, that’s a big plus for your defense. Shout out to Fox, who is having a Pro Bowl-caliber season.
