The Lions should use Penei Sewell as a ball carrier

The Detroit Lions had a rough outing against the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday. They lost by 32 points and there just wasn't much good to take out of it.

The offensive line really struggled. They allowed five sacks on Jared Goff and that caused him to fumble twice. It was ugly. One of those fumbles got picked up by the Ravens and set up another score for them.

The other one though, that one got picked up by Penei Sewell and then he did this.

Rumble young man, rumble. Most offensive linemen just fall on the fumble. Others will pick it up and maybe give themselves up fast after wrongly contemplating moving the ball up field with that weird way that offensive linemen seem to hold the ball. You know what I'm talking about. They usually hold it like they're a giant and this is their first time holding a puppy and they don't want to crush it with their giant strength that they're not aware that they have.

Sewell, on the other hand, picks this thing up like he's ran the ball before. He protects it and even switches hands at one point to try to stiff arm a guy. Ben Johnson had to be watching this and salivating. Seriously, someone had to go wipe his chin off from all the salivation.

The Lions must work in a play for this running ability. We've already seen them work in a pass play against the Vikings in 2022 and that went perfectly. Now all I can think of is what if Sewell would have tried to move up field after that catch instead of going down as instructed? Would he have broken five tackles and taken it to the house?

I'm not saying you have to give Sewell multiple carries a game, but something on the goal line or maybe short yard situation where you need to dial up something that nobody would expect is in order.

Hear me out, this is my fantasy. The Lions are on the 5-yard line, Sewell is eligible and goes in motion just like he did last year against the Vikings. Only this time instead of passing to him, it's a full on reverse and Goff hands him the ball and he goes into an open hole and stiff arms one or two would be tacklers on his way to his first career touchdown.

Even if they just do a simple inside handoff and let him run up the middle, it's worth seeing. Sewell just does not move like your average offensive lineman. He's athletic as hell and I hope to see Johnson work him into the offense more.
