While NFL free agency is still going on and the Lions may still look to add some players here and there, the main focus for teams is now shifting to the 2025 NFL Draft.

With both of those things in mind, now is a good time to set the table and talk about what the Lions' three biggest needs are going into the draft. Maybe that can help us narrow down expectations. Let's jump into it.

Edge

I know Lions fans were expecting Brad Holmes to get really involved in this area during free agency, but that just kind of got taken out of his hands. All the trade candidates got pulled off the table and then the top guys in an otherwise not-so-deep edge class in free agency went way above what their markets should have been. It just wasn't a good March to be looking for a pass rusher for just about everyone.

The draft presents a deep class of edge rushers this year. The Lions are in good shape at 28 to find someone who can contribute right away. They'd be good to trade down and still find someone in the the second-round too.

Players to watch: Texas A&M's Nic Scourton, Ole Miss' Princely Umanmielen, LSU's Sai'Vion Jones, Ohio State's Jack Sawyer, and Tennessee's James Pearce.

Guard

Losing Kevin Zeitler is a big deal for this team. Going into free agency he felt like the one guy that they needed to make sure they retained and that didn't happen. He wanted to play in Tennessee and be near family. There's no way to negotiate against that.

The Lions can start Christian Mahogany going forward, but there are some concerns about Graham Glasgow after a down year. The good news is that this is a good draft for guards. Not only are there some good ones but there are also some tackles who can move inside too.

Players to watch: Arizona's Jonah Savaiinaea, Ohio State's Donovan Jackson, Kentucky's Eli Cox, North Dakota State's Grey Zabel, Purdue's Marcus Mbow, and Georgia's Tate Rutledge.

Wide Receiver

The Lions have two great receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but after them, they have a lot of questions. Bringing back Tim Patrick was the right move to make, but he'll be 32 years old this season and he's not the long-term answer there.

This is a good draft for finding that answer since there are a lot of receivers who fit what the Lions are in need of. A big-bodied guy who can make contested catches and block.

Players to watch: Stanford's Elic Ayomanor, Illinois' Pat Bryant, Iowa State's Jayden Higgins, TCU's Jack Bech, and Tennessee's Bru McCoy.
