The Detroit Lions are soon expected to be on the lookout for a new offensive coordinator. While Lions head coach Dan Campbell says he has not been told anything yet, he did say that he expects to lose both coordinators.

Campbell also said that he believes the Lions have guys on their staff right now that can be the new coordinators, but that they will also consider outside options as well. The team also plans to consider the input of quarterback Jared Goff.

"To me, that's important, that's what Ben did a great job of, is working those guys together, and this system was kind of built from the ground up, and it was to help him and for him to be a part of," Campbell explained. "And so, that's huge. He'll have a lot of input. What he says is going to have, says a lot to me. Now is it going to be the ultimate decision? No, it's not but what he says is going to mean a lot to me."

Campbell also says the Lions' philosophy and terminology will remain the same a lot of what this team has done is built around Goff, so they want to make sure that whoever takes over is going to be someone that they feel works best with him.

That could give guys like passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell, and assistant head coach Scottie Montgomery a big edge over anyone from the outside.

In terms of guys on the outside who could see an interview, keep an eye on former Bears' former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. While things did not work out in Chicago, his firing didn't make a lot of sense at the time since he didn't even get a full season to install his offense.

Waldron was Goff's quarterbacks coach and the Rams passing game coordinator during Goff's early success in Los Angeles.

A long shot might be Tony Franklin. He was California's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during Goff's junior season. The season that got him picked first overall. Franklin is currently the OC for Louisiana Tech. It's a long shot, but I'm sure the Lions will turn over a lot of stones.

The most likely situation is the one that we've all sort of expected for a long time now. The Lions promote from within and Engstrand or Montgomery get the gig. We'll see what happens in due time.

The thing Brad Holmes will be obsessed with fixing for the Lions this offseason

Compartmentalizing is something I think every general manager in the NFL does. Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes is no different. The compartmentalizing thing is the idea that every offseason is dedicated mostly to fixing one big issue.  In 2024 it was clear the Lions were all in on fixing their secondary. They signed Amik Robertson, […]
