So of course the biggest obstacle for Glenn and his defense comes early in the year. You might not think the Seahawks are the team that can beat up on the Lions, but they have continuously done it since Glenn took the DC job with the Lions.
In 2021 the Seahawks put up 51 points on the Lions, in 2022 it was 48 and then in 2023 it was 37. The Lions lost all three of those games. They just seem to have Glenn's number.
While the Seahawks are currently 3-0, this is the week that Aaron Glenn and the Lions defense can really do some damage against the Seahawks defense.
The big key here is all about the third down. In three games only one team has allowed fewer third down conversions. That's the Steelers with seven. The Lions have allowed eight on 31 attempts. Teams are converting on the Lions just 25.8% of the time.
The Seahawks aren't the worst third down team, but they're only converting on 36.8% of third downs right now. The Lions are converting on 45.2% of theirs for comparison sake. That's fifth in the league.
That's going to be the key right there. The Lions need to take away the Seahawks run game and force them to be one dimensional and then get the stops on third down. Do that and they win the game.
Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker could potentially be out again. Even if he's not, the Lions still have the ability to stop the run. They're currently fifth against the run right now.
The final thing is that the Seahawks are allowing a lot of pressure right now. Their 41 allowed pressures is third in the NFL right now. The Lions 57 pressures is eighth in the NFL right now.
Combine all this together and this is the best chance Glenn and his defense has had to beat this team and finally bury those demons once and for all. This is it.
