'This was a home run signing' NFL analyst believes the Lions had one of the top signings of free agency so far with D.J. Reed

The Detroit Lions haven't been super active on day one of NFL free agency so far, but they did make one big move when they signed former New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed to a three-year deal worth $48 million.
Reed has been a very good cornerback in recent years, including last season when he allowed a reception percentage of just 58.3%. The Lions aren't getting a guy who is a big time ball hawk, he's averaged one to two picks a year, but they're getting someone who is a very versatile player who can instantly take the place of Carlton Davis who signed with the Patriots.
Don't just take our word for it. ESPN's Mina Kimes is very high on the deal for the Lions.
"This is one of my favorite signings thus far in free agency, starting with the value, I mean you saw the Jaycee Horn deal coming in. This is a bargain, honestly, well outside the top 10 in average pay for cornerbacks. DJ Reed has been underrated everywhere he goes, and yet he's still only 28 years old. He can play man, he can play zone. He can also allow the lions to continue developing their young corners. I think about Ennis Rakestraw coming off of the injury. So you have that nice blend of young guys and now a veteran in Reed. To me, this was a home run signing and allows them to avoid reaching for a cornerback in the draft. I really like this."
She's absolutely right in terms of the young group the Lions have. They're hoping that Terrion Arnold can step up and ascend to that CB1 role soon and then they have high hopes for Ennis Rakestraw to be both inside and outside. This was a really good move by Brad Holmes.
