When it rains, it pours. The Detroit Lions may be one of the best teams of the decade, but they might be remembered as the team that could have achieved great things if they had stayed healthy.

The team was already down D.J. Reed, and now you can add Terrion Arnold and Khalil Dorsey to that list. Both are expected to miss significant time, according to Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

With that in mind, here are three guys the Lions can trade for and what they’d have to give up for each of them.

Rasul Douglas, Miami Dolphins

Rasul Douglas facts for the Detroit Lions

  • Douglas’ 77.6 PFF grade would automatically be the best on the Lions
  • He’s a strong run defender, which is something the Lions focus on
  • Douglas can also be a good pass-rushing option on cornerback blitzes. He has one sack and two pressures this season
  • Douglas spent four years in the NFC North with the Packers

The Dolphins are a week or two away, and maybe a loss or two, from plummeting into full rebuild mode, and I doubt the veteran Douglas wants any part of that.

What he might like is the chance to come back to the NFC North and beat up on his former team, the Green Bay Packers, a little bit. Douglas is still playing at a high level right now, and the Dolphins have a chance ot get something out of this.

Dolphins get: 2026 sixth-round pick

Greg Newsome, Cleveland Browns

Greg Newsome facts for the Detroit Lions

  • Newsome is in the final year of his contract with the Browns
  • Has struggled as of late, but a change of scenery could do wonders
  • Had 11 pass breakups in two picks in a solid 2023 campaign

Newsome has been a guy who has been in trade talks for a while. He didn’t have the strongest 2024 season, but he’s bouncing back this season despite the Browns struggling to get wins.

He brings everything the Lions look for in their cornerbacks. He can tackle, he plays well against the run, and he’s sticky in coverage. Plus, the ball is in their court on whether or not they want to bring him back after the year.

Lions get: Greg Newsome
Browns get: 2026 fifth-round pick

Riq Woolen, Seattle Seahawks

Riq Woolen facts for the Detroit Lions

  • The Lions coached him in the Senior Bowl ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft
  • Woolen has been a staunch run defender despite rumors that he’s not good at it. Holds a 70 run defense grade with PFF. Had a 76 grade last season
  • Josh Jobe and Derion Kendrick have started to eat into his snaps

Woolen is the big candidate everyone is talking about right now since the Seahawks have started backing down on him a bit. Look, he’s not having a good season at the moment. But he has four seasons before this that show how good he is.

I’m not big on ruling a guy as washed after five games. It’s just not a realistic thing. Detroit is a good spot for him to have a change of scenery and prove again that he’s a solid cornerback.

Lions get: Riq Woolen
Seahawks get: 2026 fifth-round pick
