The Philadelphia Eagles have mostly been media darlings this offseason.

Most analysts and talking heads agree that the Eagles are the team to beat in 2023 thanks to their elite roster and the success they had last season.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise that Philadelphia received some disrespect this week from a prominent national sports media outlet.

On Thursday, CBS Sports' Will Brinson predicted the final standings for each NFL division in 2023.

For several of the divisions, Brinson went with the obvious choices. He has the Kansas City Chiefs winning the AFC West and the Cincinnati Bengals winning the AFC North. He also has the Buffalo Bills cruising to another division title in the AFC East.

Brinson opted against conventional wisdom with his NFC East prediction. Instead of going with the heavily favored Eagles, Brinson has the Cowboys winning the NFC East. He has the Eagles and the Cowboys both finishing with a 10-7 record (and Dallas winning the division via a tiebreaker).

From CBS Sports: Eagles fans are also very steamed up about this projection. Don't blame me! The Brinson Model™️ is an unbiased, proprietary projection system designed to mathematically simulate an NFL season as accurately as robotically possible. Also, Philly went from having the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2022 to having the hardest. I actually want to pick the Giants to win the division and the model giving them nine wins in Brian Daboll's second season gives me good reason to do just that. For now I'm rolling with the Cowboys, who might actually be improved on offense with a little balance from Mike McCarthy's playcalling, something I'm sure I won't regret later. I'm higher on Sam Howell than most but this is just how Washington's schedule fell.

This feels like an off-the-wall prediction just for the sake of being different. Sure, the Eagles have a tougher schedule than they did a year ago. But they're still going to be favored in the majority of their games — teams don't reach the Super Bowl because of an easy schedule.

Philly has proven they can be an elite team with Jalen Hurts under center. Dallas hasn't proven that with Dak Prescott under center. Why in the world would CBS Sports think that's suddenly going to change in 2023? Based on what? The fact that Dallas has a star on their helmet?

This is simply a case of an analyst trying to get cute with his pick. The Eagles are the team to beat in the NFC East until they aren't. And suggesting otherwise is incredibly disrespectful to the team that Howie Roseman has built in Philadelphia.
