Florida State dealt a huge loss off the field by Ohio State on Thursday
FSU got some bad news regarding an important part of their 2026 recruiting class.
The Florida State Seminoles’ struggles on the field have coincided with some issues off the field, particularly when it comes to recruiting. In recent days, while some recruits have stayed the course in the midst of a 4-4 season for the Noles, a handful of recruits have decommitted or committed elsewhere.
That includes Ohio State, who snatched one of FSU’s top commitments from its 2026 class on Thursday. Per On3/Rivals recruiting insider Hayes Fawcett, four-star CB Jay Timmons has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Ohio State.
Four-star CB Jay Timmons flips pledge from FSU to Ohio State
Timmons committed to Mike Norvell and the Noles back in June, and he’s one of the top-ranked players in the class. Rivals has him as the #2 cornerback in the country and a top 100 player, and in their industry/composite rankings, he comes in at #111 overall, #15 CB, and #3 player in the state of Pennsylvania.
The move is doubly painful in that it’s the loss of a legacy of a very notable name among FSU fans – Lawrence Timmons. Timmons played for FSU from 2004-06 before embarking on a lengthy career in Pittsburgh, where he won a Super Bowl title and earned Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors in 2014. Now, it looks like his son won’t be following in his footsteps in garnet and gold.
Norvell needs to stop the bleeding quickly with his 2026 class, and a turnaround on the field to end the 2025 season would help. We’ll see if they can do just that on Saturday night at Clemson.
