HOW
WINS:
Carry over the momentum from the Georgia victory…
Derek Mason just got his first SEC road win of his head coaching career and now he's trying to keep the win streak rolling against TSU. In Athens, his Vanderbilt football team played solid defense and when they needed points from their offense, they mounted a drive and got them.
This game won't be easy by any means but if Vandy plays TSU like they've played the majority of their opponents this season, they can't lose. The tough, physical mentality of their defense has held teams in check. This has taken pressure off of the offense that has had their fair share of struggles.
This is not the game that you try to find Kyle Shurmur a rhythm passing the football and go away from your game plan. Look for Vanderbilt to use their two backs to ground and pound the football. Ralph Webb bounced back the best he could after suffering an ankle injury two weeks ago against Kentucky. I wouldn't be surprised if Khari Blasingame takes the majority of the carries on Saturday as the Dores go right at the TSU defense.
Zach Cunningham leads the Southeastern Conference in tackles and racked up a handful of awards for his 19 tackle performance against Georgia last week. If the defense continues to play like it has, only giving up 22 points per game, Tennessee State will be struggle to extend drives.
HOW
WINS:
Score, score & score…
The only way for Tennessee State to win this game is if they make Vanderbilt chase them. The TSU offense is averaging 36 points per game and have the ability to put the football in the end zone. For the Tigers, it will be their big play ability that will have to shine on Saturday night.
Vanderbilt has struggled this season through the air and offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig doesn't like to put a lot on QB Kyle Shurmur's plate. If the Tigers can force Shurmur into making mistakes and creating short fields, it will only benefit Rod Reed's team.
TSU forced 5 turnovers last week against Eastern Kentucky. If they're able to create just a couple of takeaways, the Tigers will be in this game.
