Exams confirmed the initial diagnosis, and Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has suffered an MCL sprain in his knee. According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, he’s week to week.
Jones will miss Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions, but is expected to come back at some point this season.
Throughout his career, Jones has already suffered similar injuries multiple times. He had MCL sprains twice in 2017. He missed two games in the first one, and the final game of the season because of the second. Jones had another MCL sprain in 2018, missing two more games, and a fourth one in 2021, missing just one week.
At first, there was a fear for a more serious, season-ending injury, but initial tests showed the injury wasn’t so bad.
“If it’s my ACL, then I’m done for the season,” Jones said on Monday. “I put in a lot of work, put in a lot of time to be here with these guys. For it to go out like that, I was feeling like, ‘Man, I can’t catch a break.’ But I caught a break. Hopefully, it’s not anything serious and I’m back here pretty soon.”
After the Lions game, the Packers will have a mini-bye, coming back only ten days later against the Kansas City Chiefs. The following game is against the New York Giants.
Depth issues at running back
Emanuel Wilson also got hurt during the win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and was listed as a non-participant on Monday’s estimated injury report. Possibly without two of their three main running backs, the Packers added Patrick Taylor to the active roster and James Robinson to the practice squad.
AJ Dillon (groin) was also limited. Green Bay has undrafted rookie running back Ellis Merriweather on the practice squad as well.
